Pervez Khattak Blames PTI for KP Government’s Fall, Says Governor’s Rule Became Inevitable

NOWSHERA, October 25, 2026: Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has blamed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for the downfall of the provincial government, saying the party’s policies and alleged support for Afghanistan and the Taliban created circumstances that made the imposition of governor’s rule unavoidable.

According to details, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi held an important meeting with Khattak in Nowshera. Khattak, who is also an adviser to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on interior affairs, made the remarks while speaking to the media after the meeting.

Khattak said PTI was responsible for the situation that led to the end of the provincial government. He alleged that the party wanted to follow and support Afghanistan and the Taliban, adding that its approach had contributed to circumstances in which governor’s rule had to be imposed.

The former chief minister acknowledged that the decision to impose governor’s rule was extremely difficult, as such a move is generally not considered politically favourable. However, he maintained that PTI’s flawed strategy had left no other option.

“If there had been anyone in PTI capable of thinking things through, the situation would never have reached this point,” Khattak said.

Clarifying his political position, Khattak said he currently remained independent and had no intention of joining any other political party.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi praised Khattak’s long and successful political career. He said the former chief minister had worked for the province’s development during his tenure by taking the opposition along.

Kundi added that his meetings with various political leaders were aimed at working with the federal government to address the challenges facing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He also referred to the recent meeting of the Apex Committee in Peshawar, describing it as an important step in this direction. According to the governor, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had listened to the province’s concerns during the meeting and assured participants that steps would be taken to resolve them.
