9 Killed, Over 500 Homes Destroyed in Devastating Floods in Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit: Torrential floods in Gilgit-Baltistan have claimed at least 9 lives, including two women and two children, while over a dozen others have been injured, according to provincial government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq.
Faraq stated that between 10 to 12 individuals are currently missing, and more than 500 houses have been destroyed as a result of the widespread flooding. The disaster has also damaged over 12 kilometers of roads across the region.
He added that 27 bridges and 22 vehicles have been washed away by powerful floodwaters. Numerous shops and livestock shelters have been destroyed, and thousands of feet of construction timber have been swept away.
The worst-affected area is the Diamer district, where the highest number of casualties and financial losses have been reported. More than 300 stranded tourists and passengers have been rescued with the assistance of the Pakistan Army and GB Scouts, who have played a significant role in ongoing rescue and relief operations.
Faraq mentioned that search operations are still underway to locate the missing individuals. However, ongoing water flow and landslides in various areas are hampering both rescue efforts and the restoration of roads.
The spokesperson assured that relief efforts continue, and work to restore water and electricity supplies is already in progress. He emphasized that the provincial government is committed to supporting the flood-affected people and will provide all possible assistance.
