Mother’s Explosive Statement in Balochistan Woman’s Killing Case Shifts Investigation Direction

Quetta:A dramatic twist has emerged in the ongoing investigation into the killing of a woman in Balochistan, as the victim’s mother, Gul Jan, has come forward with a shocking statement that could reshape the entire narrative.

In her statement, Gul Jan identified herself as the mother of the slain woman, Bano. “I am not lying — the truth is, Bano was not a young girl; she was a mother of five children,” she said. According to Gul Jan, Bano’s eldest son Noor Ahmed is 18, followed by Wasit (16), Fatima (12), Sadiqa (9), and the youngest, Zakir (6).

Gul Jan emphasized that the killing was not an act of “dishonor,” but rather, carried out in accordance with Baloch tribal customs. “Bano had eloped with a man named Ehsan and lived with him for 25 days. After returning, her husband forgave her for the sake of their children and agreed to take her back,” she said.

She further accused Ehsan of continuously provoking her sons by sending threatening TikTok videos and instigating them. “My daughter was punished according to Baloch traditions. A decision was made through a tribal jirga — not unlawfully — and we did not act outside of our customs,” Gul Jan added.

She clarified that the decision was not made solely by tribal leader Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai but through a collective community decision. “I appeal to the authorities to release Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai and all others who have been arrested,” she pleaded.

The statement has stirred strong reactions, with human rights activists and legal experts urging the state to ensure justice is served based on law, not tradition. The incident has reignited the debate over the legality and morality of jirga-based justice in Pakistan, especially when it leads to extrajudicial killings.

An official response from law enforcement agencies regarding the statement is awaited as the investigation continues.
