Imran Khan Is Not a Delicate Prisoner, Says Analyst Mazhar Abbas

Islamabad: Renowned political analyst Mazhar Abbas has said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan is not a fragile or delicate political prisoner, and he cannot form an opinion on whether Khan is truly being held in a “death cell” in Adiala Jail until he sees it with his own eyes.
Speaking during a private TV channel program, Abbas stated, “Political prisoners like Khan Abdul Wali Khan never made special demands, not even for home-cooked meals. There’s a well-known story that once it rained at night and water leaked into his prison cell. He sat in a corner all night under a sheet. When the jail superintendent asked the next morning why he hadn’t informed him, Wali Khan replied that he didn’t want to disturb anyone at night. That’s the kind of resilience political prisoners had.”
Mazhar Abbas emphasized that political prisoners are usually not demanding and have a different temperament. “I don’t believe the government’s version, and I don’t believe Imran Khan’s version either, unless I see concrete evidence myself,” he added.
Responding to a question, Abbas said, “Imran Khan is not a soft or pampered political prisoner. If we look at the last 10–15 years, most political prisoners—especially former prime ministers—have often ended up in hospitals. But Imran Khan has not been to a hospital even once in the past two years. That tells you something.”
He concluded by saying that he is only asking a simple question: “Who is telling the truth—Imran Khan or the government? I need to see the facts before I form an opinion.”
