PPP and JUI-F Discuss Seat Adjustments for Senate Elections in Meeting

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) held a significant meeting yesterday to discuss potential seat adjustments for the upcoming Senate elections, scheduled for July 21.

According to media reports, a PPP delegation led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence. The PPP delegation included senior leaders such as Syed Khurshid Shah and provincial leader Zahid Shah. From JUI-F, the meeting was attended by Akram Khan Durrani, Maulana Lutuf-ur-Rehman, Maulana Asad Mehmood, Zahid Durrani, and Asjad Mehmood.

Following the meeting, a statement was issued by the JUI-F spokesperson, confirming that the discussion centered around the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Notably, Maulana Asad Mehmood had also met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier this week, while the same day, a delegation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), headed by Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah, also met Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Faisal Karim Kundi stated that the talks were part of efforts by opposition parties to form a consensus and secure more seats in the Senate. He emphasized that during PPP’s previous tenure, concrete steps were taken to curb horse-trading during Senate elections.

Kundi also remarked on the fluid nature of political alliances, citing the past relations between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Maulana Fazlur Rehman as an example of how political loyalties often shift.

This meeting and the ongoing consultations reflect the strategic maneuvering ahead of the crucial Senate elections, with political parties attempting to forge alliances and solidify their positions.
