Young Man Visiting Karachi for Father’s Funeral Shot Dead During Robbery Attempt

Karachi: A 25-year-old man who had returned from Saudi Arabia for his father’s funeral was tragically shot and killed during a robbery in Orangi Town. The incident marks the 50th fatality this year in Karachi caused by armed resistance during street crimes.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the victim, Jibran Khan, son of Jumma Khan, was sitting outside his home (House No. 204) near Gaddafi Chowk, Kala Maidan, with a local ice vendor during a power outage when two armed robbers on a motorcycle approached them.
Jibran handed over one of his mobile phones and his wallet to the assailants. However, as he tried to resist further and keep a second phone in his pocket, the robbers opened fire. A bullet struck him in the neck and exited from the back, leading to his immediate death. The robbers fled with the stolen belongings.
Jibran had returned to Karachi just 13 days earlier after his father passed away on the 1st of Muharram. He and his younger brother had been working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for over two years. He was employed in the online food delivery sector and had taken a month’s leave to attend his father’s funeral.
His untimely death has devastated his family, who were already mourning the recent loss of their father. His grieving sisters, brother, and relatives rushed out of the house, crying uncontrollably. Neighbors also expressed their sorrow and outrage, condemning the lawlessness in the city.
Jibran’s cousin, Qasim, made an emotional plea to authorities:
“Enough is enough. These robbers have destroyed hundreds of families. No one in this city is safe anymore—not even those in power. If nothing is done now, Karachi will become a graveyard. How many more young lives must be lost before action is taken?”
The police stated that due to the power outage, the robbers’ faces were not clearly seen. However, CCTV footage from nearby areas has been collected to assist with the investigation. Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice, promising they will not escape the law.
This incident adds to a growing sense of insecurity in Karachi, where the number of people killed while resisting robberies has now reached 50 in 2025 alone.
