Devastating Monsoon Rains Cause Fatalities, Damage to Homes in Balochistan

Balochistan, Pakistan:Recent monsoon rains have wreaked havoc across various districts of Balochistan, leading to the tragic deaths of seven individuals and injuring seven others. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) released a report detailing the extensive damage caused by the torrential rains, flash floods, and storms.
According to the PDMA, the severe weather conditions caused significant destruction, including the collapse of 22 homes across multiple districts. In Washuk, five homes were completely destroyed by flooding, and several houses and agricultural lands were severely damaged due to flash flooding. Loralai also witnessed significant damage, with several solar panels being destroyed by powerful winds. In Saurab, heavy rainfall and storms further damaged homes and solar energy systems.
Additionally, a tragic incident occurred in Musa Khel, where a person was killed due to a lightning strike. PDMA officials are still conducting assessments in the affected areas to estimate further damage, and relief activities are underway in the region to assist the victims.
This comes as the second spell of monsoon rains continues to affect the country, with forecasts predicting further heavy downpours until July 10. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of potential flooding in local seasonal rivers in areas such as Murree, Galyat, Mansehra, and Chitral. There are also concerns about landslides in regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, and Kashmir due to the intense rainfall.
In addition, there is an increased risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and other vulnerable regions.
As the rain continues, local authorities are urging residents in flood-prone areas to remain cautious and prepared for any eventuality.
