Pakistan’s Assumption of UN Security Council Presidency a Moment of Pride: Shahid Afridi

Karachi: Former Pakistan cricket team captain and Test cricketer, Shahid Khan Afridi, has expressed that Pakistan’s assumption of the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is a moment of immense pride.
In his statement, Afridi acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts towards global peace and security, commending the country’s role in contributing to international stability. He also extended his best wishes for Pakistan to carry out this responsibility in the most effective and efficient manner.
It is worth noting that Pakistan assumed the UNSC presidency on Tuesday. While the role is symbolic, it holds significant strategic importance, especially in the context of current global affairs.

This is Pakistan’s eighth term in the UNSC, and it has not held the presidency since 2013. Pakistan began its current two-year term as a non-permanent member in January 2025, which will continue until December 2026. Although the presidency rotates on a monthly basis and does not grant direct administrative powers, the presiding country can influence the agenda, discussions, and priorities of the Council.
