Election Commission Restores Reserved Seats in National and Provincial Assemblies

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored the reserved seats in the National Assembly and all four provincial assemblies, following a key decision in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling.
In an important announcement, the ECP confirmed the restoration of reserved seats in the National Assembly, as well as the provincial assemblies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. A total of 74 reserved seats have been reinstated: 19 in the National Assembly, 25 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 27 in Punjab, and 3 in Sindh.
As a result of this development, the previous notifications regarding the return of PTI candidates, who had won these reserved seats, have been nullified. The ECP has canceled the notifications issued on July 24 and 29, 2024.
The ECP issued this decision based on the Supreme Court’s ruling on June 27, 2025, regarding review petitions. The ECP clarified that the cancellation of the notifications was in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives.
With this decision, PTI candidates’ return to reserved seats in the National Assembly, Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies has been declared invalid.
