Prime Minister Directs Policy Development for Promoting Electric Vehicles

Modern, Sustainable Transport Systems for the Future

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the development of a policy to promote modern transportation options, including electric vehicles, as part of efforts to create a sustainable, environmentally friendly transport system.
A high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was convened to discuss the promotion of electric vehicles and the development of the industry in the country. The meeting reviewed the draft of the “Electric Vehicles Policy 2025” and held detailed consultations on its implementation.
The Prime Minister emphasized the urgent need for measures to rapidly expand electric motorcycles, scooters, three-wheelers, cars, and buses. He highlighted that the expansion of electric vehicles is crucial for building a future-proof, eco-friendly, and sustainable transport network.
The Prime Minister also directed that charging stations and battery swapping points be established nationwide to ensure that citizens have easy access to the latest technologies. He stressed the importance of enhancing the industrial sector’s capacity to boost the local production of two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister made it clear that the electric vehicle policy would be completed in consultation with all stakeholders and presented to the Cabinet for approval, so that its implementation could begin at the earliest.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar, and other senior officials, who provided their input on the policy and its implementation.
Participants briefed the Prime Minister on the various aspects of the policy and the action plan for its execution.
