Maryam Nawaz Approves 30-40% Reduction in Tariffs for Punjab Power Companies

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a major reduction of 30 to 40 percent in tariffs for Punjab’s thermal power companies, including Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power and Punjab Thermal Power. The decision, made during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, is aimed at providing significant relief to the public amid ongoing economic challenges.
The cabinet approved several key initiatives to ease financial pressure on citizens, including the launch of Punjab’s first private airline, Air Punjab Private Limited, which is expected to become operational within one year.
In addition to the power tariff cut, the cabinet approved a new system for electric vehicle (EV) registration, the overhauling of government helicopters, and the introduction of a comprehensive Child Protection Policy. The cabinet also passed the Punjab Senior Citizens Welfare Bill, the Punjab Horticulture Authority Act, and the Punjab Clean Air Program.
Another major development was the approval of Maryam Nawaz Social Security Ration Cards, and funding for furnishing and equipping hospitals across the province. The cabinet also gave the green light for land acquisition to establish a Medical City in Lahore.
In a bid to support farmers, Maryam Nawaz announced a substantial relief package under which 514,000 wheat growers have already received a per-acre subsidy of PKR 5,000. Furthermore, the Chief Minister directed authorities to shut down vaping centers across the province.
Efforts to promote sustainable transport were also emphasized, with the approval of 1,100 interest-free electric taxis and the establishment of EV charging stations in all major cities of Punjab.
Speaking at the meeting, Maryam Nawaz stated, “We do what we promise. The people trust the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and we will continue to honor that trust.”
