UK Court Stunned as Lawyer Appears Half-Naked via Video Link; Judge Expresses Outrage

A British court was left in shock and embarrassment after a lawyer appeared half-naked during a virtual court hearing, blatantly disregarding courtroom decorum. The incident occurred at Shrewsbury Crown Court, where the unidentified lawyer, who was not a regular member of the court, joined the session via video link.
According to international media reports, the hearing took an awkward turn when the lawyer initially appeared off-screen, showing only a disheveled bedroom with background noise causing concern among court attendees. Presiding Recorder Julian Taylor, visibly frustrated, asked, “Where is he?” while the clerk repeatedly attempted to get the lawyer’s attention.
Moments later, the lawyer suddenly appeared on the left side of the screen. While his upper body was appropriately dressed in a black court gown and white-collared shirt, he was not wearing any clothing on his lower half—prompting swift and stern remarks from Judge Taylor.
The judge reprimanded him, stating, “It seems you are not properly dressed. Your background is also extremely unsatisfactory. Virtual hearings must be treated with the same seriousness as in-person court proceedings.”
Expressing his disappointment, Judge Taylor further remarked, “I am not impressed by your current state. You should be fully and properly attired when attending court—virtually or otherwise.”
The visibly embarrassed lawyer quickly placed his periwig on his head and responded, “Yes, I understand.” He explained that the delay in his appearance was due to ongoing Wi-Fi issues and that he had been connected to the link for over an hour awaiting the session.
