Trump’s Approval Rating Falls to Lowest Level of Both Terms Ahead of US Midterm Elections

WASHINGTON:US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has declined further to its lowest level across both of his presidential terms, just weeks before the country’s midterm elections.
According to a Reuters-Ipsos poll, 66 percent of Americans expressed dissatisfaction with Trump’s performance, while only 31 percent said they were satisfied with his presidency.
The survey also indicated a lead for Democrats over Republicans in voting preferences. If elections were held immediately, 47 percent of respondents said they would vote for Democratic candidates, compared with 35 percent who favoured Republicans.
Trump is also facing growing public dissatisfaction over his handling of the economy. According to the poll, 68 percent of Americans were unhappy with his economic performance, while 40 percent said they trusted Democrats more than Republicans to handle economic issues.
The survey suggested that rising fuel prices following US military strikes against Iran had contributed to the decline in Trump’s popularity, adding to the political challenges facing his administration ahead of the midterm elections.
