WhatsApp Launches Dedicated App for iPads with Enhanced Privacy Features

Karachi: In a long-awaited move, instant messaging platform WhatsApp has officially launched a dedicated version of its app for iPad users, allowing them to send and receive messages directly from the device—similar to smartphone functionality. Users will also be able to make group calls via their iPads.
Meta acknowledged that a standalone iPad app was among the most requested features from users for years. The WhatsApp app is now available for download on the Apple App Store for modern iPads.
Previously, WhatsApp could only be used on one device at a time, and its web version functioned merely as an extension of the mobile app—requiring the phone to be constantly connected and active.
Although Meta has confirmed the iPad app release, it has not provided a detailed list of features. However, one significant update has been confirmed: the inclusion of the Chat Lock feature. This feature allows users to lock individual chats using a password or fingerprint, ensuring privacy on shared devices.
This update marks a major step forward in WhatsApp’s multi-device functionality and enhances user privacy, especially for families or professionals using shared tablets.
