Child Marriage Debate Reaches Islamic Ideology Council Amid National Legal Developments

Islamabad:The issue of **child marriage** has now reached the **Islamic Ideology Council (IIC)**, as both **National Assembly and Senate** have already passed bills addressing this critical social concern. The Council convened its **242nd session today** at the IIC Auditorium under the chairmanship of **Dr. Raghib Naeemi**, where several significant legislative and religious matters were discussed.

A **five-point agenda** was tabled, including:

* The **Mandatory Thalassemia Screening Bill 2025**,
* NEPRA’s request regarding the **Shariah status of various schemes/projects**,
* **Lahore High Court’s ruling on dower in the case of Khula**,
* The **Prohibition of Child Marriage Bill 2025** for Islamabad,
* The **Child Marriage Restraint Act** submitted by the **Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government**, and
* The **Muslim Family Laws (Amendment) Bill 2025**.

The Council is set to **review these bills through a religious and constitutional lens** and prepare its **recommendations**, which will be sent to the relevant legislative bodies for further action.

In a separate development during the session, the **Chairman of the Islamic Ideology Council** made a strong nationalistic statement regarding a recent military conflict, referring to it as a **”Battle for Truth.”** He **congratulated the nation and Pakistan Armed Forces** for what he called a **historic and strategic victory**.

He praised the **skill and courage of Pakistani pilots**, claiming that the enemy was quickly forced to seek a **ceasefire through the U.S.** after its air forces were effectively neutralized. According to him, **Pakistan’s swift and decisive response** elevated its reputation globally and uplifted the morale of the entire nation.

He also commended the **diplomatic efforts led by Ishaq Dar**, the **media strategy of DG ISPR and Ataullah Tarar**, and hailed the unity displayed across **all national institutions**.

Further, he called for continued **vigilance against future threats**, describing the adversary as **”cunning and cowardly.”** He proposed awarding **General Syed Asim Munir** the title of **Field Marshal**, recognizing his leadership during the conflict.

The session reflected the Council’s dual focus: navigating complex **religious-legal frameworks** like child marriage, while also offering **symbolic national support** for Pakistan’s military and diplomatic victories.
