3-Year Crackdown: Over 3,500 Government Officials Arrested for Corruption in Pakistan

Islamabad:A comprehensive report presented in the National Assembly has revealed that **3,503 government employees** have been arrested over the past **three years** in connection with corruption and related offenses across various federal departments.
The report, compiled by the **Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)**, highlights significant action taken between **2022 and March 2025**, including financial recoveries and legal proceedings.
### Key Findings:
* **47 FIRs registered** and **434 individuals investigated** by the FIA’s Anti-Corruption Wing during this period.
* **6,367 acres of land**, worth **Rs. 41.53 billion**, were recovered from **56 corrupt officials**.
* An additional **Rs. 990 million** was recovered in unpaid rents and dues.
### Crackdown on Power Sector Crimes:
Since **March 16, 2022**, the FIA launched targeted operations against power theft and corruption:
* **14,859 raids** conducted.
* **1,350 inquiries** initiated and **1,836 FIRs** registered.
* **971 government employees** arrested, with a **recovery of Rs. 4.32 billion**.
### DISCO Officials Under Scrutiny:
Beginning **April 1, 2024**, the FIA intensified investigations into corrupt officials within electricity distribution companies (DISCOs):
* **1,389 DISCO officials** found involved in corruption.
* **736 inquiries** initiated, **193 FIRs** registered.
* **261 officials arrested** for misconduct and embezzlement.
### Overbilling Investigations:
The agency also probed **overbilling cases** amounting to **Rs. 1.10 billion**:
* **109 inquiries** were initiated.
* **44 FIRs** were lodged across the country.
### National Impact:
In total, from **2022 to March 2025**, the FIA:
* Launched **8,784 inquiries**.
* Registered **3,479 corruption cases**.
* Secured **convictions for 432 government employees** involved in various financial crimes.
The data underscores the government’s intensified anti-corruption efforts, focusing on accountability and recovery of public assets.
