Balochistan to Observe ‘Drug-Free Month’, CM Bugti Orders Crackdown on Drug Networks and Addict Rehabilitation

Quetta:A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti was held at the CM Secretariat to review initiatives of the Department of Social Welfare, Anti-Narcotics, and drug rehabilitation programs. The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare Wali Muhammad Noorzai, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Hafiz Abdul Basit, Secretary Social Welfare Ismatullah Qureshi, Secretary Finance Imran Zarkoon, Principal Secretary to the CM Babar Khan, Commissioner Quetta Division Hamza Shafqat, and representatives of the Anti-Narcotics Force.

The meeting unanimously decided to declare the current month as **“Drug-Free Month”** in Balochistan, with a special focus on eliminating drug use and restoring affected individuals back to society.

CM Bugti directed law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, to conduct daily operations against drug handlers and suppliers. He instructed that **Quetta City Nullah** be completely cleared of drug addicts and encroachments related to drug use.

The Chief Minister further emphasized that the **Anti-Narcotics Force’s rehabilitation center** should be utilized to its maximum capacity to treat a greater number of drug-dependent individuals. It was also decided that several **inactive government buildings** will be handed over to the Department of Social Welfare to be converted into rehabilitation centers.

Highlighting the importance of real impact over symbolic gestures, CM Bugti stated:
*“Our aim is not just to construct buildings but to use them effectively for public welfare. We must ensure that our youth are freed from the scourge of drugs.”*

He instructed the Social Welfare Department to **expand its operational capacity** and submit a performance report within 15 days.
