Economic Injustice Facing Balochistan Police: Officials Decry Insufficient Allowances Amid Rising Costs

Quetta – Balochistan Police, who are constantly sacrificing their lives on the frontlines of law enforcement, are facing severe economic injustice. Compared to other provinces, Balochistan’s police officers receive the lowest allowances, which, in the face of skyrocketing inflation, hold no practical value.
Currently, police personnel are receiving a mere 1,038 Pakistani Rupees (approximately 34 Rupees per day) as a ration allowance. This amount is hardly enough to cover the costs of a single meal, let alone three daily meals. The government has been questioned as to how a hotel can provide three meals for just 34 Rupees a day.
Additionally, housing rent allowance has been fixed at only 1,589 Rupees per month, which is insufficient to secure housing for a family in any society. The monthly laundry allowance for police officers is just 100 Rupees, which is inadequate considering the rising costs of basic household services, let alone the need to maintain police uniforms. Medical allowance is similarly paltry, with only 1,500 Rupees per month allocated, barely enough to cover medical expenses for the officers’ families.
The transportation allowance stands at a mere 1,920 Rupees per month, or 64 Rupees per day, which is insufficient to even cover the fare for a single trip by rickshaw.
This dire situation is not only lamentable but also shameful. On one hand, the police are tasked with combating terrorism, lawlessness, and crime, while on the other hand, their basic financial rights are denied. The government of Balochistan and federal authorities are urged to urgently address this grave issue, or else this economic injustice could severely demoralize the police force, jeopardizing peace and order in the province.
