Tandoor Owners Protest in Quetta Against Price Hikes and Government Crackdowns

Quetta:On Sunday, tandoor owners in Quetta staged a protest in front of the Quetta Press Club under the leadership of Zia-ul-Haq, demanding the authorities address their grievances. The protesters held banners with slogans calling for fair treatment and justice.

Addressing the protesters, Zia-ul-Haq, Noor Mohammad, and Muhib condemned the ongoing raids by the district administration on tandoors, where workers are arrested and tandoors sealed without any clear justification. They expressed strong disapproval of the recent hike in the price of bread set by the authorities, stating that the new rates are unacceptable and unsustainable for them.

The tandoor owners demanded that, like other provinces, they be allowed to sell a 260-gram loaf of bread for 30 rupees. They pointed out that the price control committee had set the new rate without any thorough analysis, which is causing significant financial losses for tandoor owners.

The protesters highlighted the extreme measures taken by the district administration, including sealing over 100 tandoors and arresting dozens of individuals. They strongly condemned these actions and called for immediate action to reverse the situation. As a result of these ongoing challenges, more than 100 tandoor owners in Quetta have been forced to shut down their businesses due to financial losses.

The tandoor owners have issued a demand to both the provincial government and the district administration to stop the retaliatory actions against them. They are requesting the immediate reopening of the sealed tandoors, the release of those arrested, and the permission to sell a 260-gram loaf of bread for 30 rupees.
