Online Rider Killed During Robbery Resistance, 34 Citizens Murdered in 4 Months

Karachi: In yet another tragic incident of growing street crime in Karachi, a 50-year-old online motorcycle rider was shot dead by robbers during a mugging attempt near Bagh Korangi Bridge in Shah Faisal Colony. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Sharafi Goth Police Station.
The victim, identified as Nadeem Ahmed, was not only an online delivery rider but also served as a mosque caretaker. He was the father of three children and was returning home from North Karachi to Korangi at the time of the incident.
According to police, Nadeem was critically injured in the firing and was rushed to Jinnah Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His body was handed over to the family after legal formalities.
Nadeem’s nephews expressed deep sorrow and anger, stating that the growing number of street crimes is making the public feel increasingly unsafe. One nephew, Arsalan, shared that he had called his uncle at 4 a.m., only for a police officer to answer the phone and inform him that his uncle had been shot and had passed away.
The deceased’s brother-in-law, Majid Ali, criticized the lack of law enforcement, calling the situation “a jungle law.” He pointed out that frequent robberies occur at Shah Faisal Bridge and there seems to be no authority to stop them. He also described Nadeem as a devout and kind-hearted man who was trying to support his family by working late nights as a rider.
Nadeem had visited his relatives in North Karachi after a long time and was returning home late due to his family responsibilities, despite being advised against traveling so late.
According to 2025 statistics so far, 34 citizens have been killed by robbers in Karachi during the first four months of the year — 5 in January, 10 in February, 9 in March, and 10 in April.
Citizens have demanded urgent and effective action from the government and law enforcement agencies to curb the growing wave of street crime in the city.
