Balochistan Awami Party Urges Akhtar Mengal to End Sit-in, Offers Mediation for Dialogue

Islamabad: The Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has called on Sardar Akhtar Mengal to end his ongoing sit-in protest, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and the continuity of the state system. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, BAP President Khalid Magsi stated that the party has reached out to Mengal, both through conversation and in-person visits by party leaders, to resolve the matter amicably.
“Akhtar Mengal is our brother and a respected figure. We request him to end the sit-in and open the highways to ease the suffering of the people,” said Magsi.
He stressed that while politicians have a right to protest, they must operate within defined boundaries. “The state must draw a line and ensure the system keeps functioning. No one should push the state to act forcefully — when compelled, the state will act.”
Magsi added that the BAP is willing to mediate between the government and Mengal to initiate “table talks,” as negotiations are the best solution. He also underlined that arrests happen under legal frameworks, not due to road blockades, and that respect for state institutions is essential.
“I do not wish to comment on whether the Balochistan government is successful or not,” he added, but emphasized the need to find a constructive path forward during the current situation.
The press conference was also attended by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Dinesh Kumar, Naseebullah Bazai, and other BAP leaders.
