Transgender Dancer Mahak Malik Booked for Alleged Obscene Dance at Wedding in Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur:Police in Bahawalpur have filed a case against Mahak Malik, a well-known transgender dancer in Punjab, accusing her of performing an “inappropriate dance” at a wedding ceremony in Yazman Mandi, a town in southern Punjab.
According to details, the case has been registered against Mahak Malik and 35 other individuals under violations of the Amplifier Act. No arrests have been made so far.
The FIR states that Mahak Malik was invited to perform at a wedding held in a village near Yazman Mandi. During the event, the transgender performer allegedly wore indecent clothing and danced to vulgar songs, while attendees threw currency notes at her.
Authorities said that out of the 35 accused in the case, 10 have been identified, while 25 remain unidentified. Reports also claim that a police officer and several government employees were present at the event, but none have been named in the case as yet.
This incident has sparked significant online debate, with many questioning selective accountability and the role of authorities in culturally sensitive and controversial matters.
This comes in the wake of a recent decision by the Punjab government to ban transgender individuals from performing in stage plays, further fueling concerns about the targeting of marginalized communities.
