Islamabad High Court Issues Detailed Verdict on Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s Appeals in Cipher Case

Islamabad:The Islamabad High Court has issued a detailed verdict on the appeals of PTI founder Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the cipher case. The court ruled that the prosecution completely failed to prove its case. It further stated that the case is of the nature that it should be remanded back to the trial court for further proceedings.

The brief decision on the appeals of Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi was made on June 3 by former Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and former High Court Judge Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, who acquitted both leaders of the charges. The detailed 24-page judgment has now been released.

The court noted that the record indicates that the trial was conducted in an unnecessarily hasty manner. Despite the defense counsel requesting adjournments, a government lawyer was appointed. However, the government lawyer was given only one day to prepare for the case. The court observed that the government’s cross-examination of witnesses reflected both inexperience and insufficient time.

The judgment emphasized that even if the cross-examination is disregarded, the prosecution’s evidence is inadequate to prove the case. The court concluded that the case is of a nature that should be sent back to the trial court for further examination on its merits.
