FIA Arrests Wanted Human Smuggler Involved in Libya Boat Tragedy

Islamabad:The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has apprehended a key human smuggler involved in last month’s tragic boat incident off the coast of Libya. The accused, identified as Amir Hussain, was arrested in the Kurram District.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the arrested individual had been involved in sending unsuspecting citizens illegally to Europe via sea routes. Amir Hussain was wanted by the FIA Kohat for his role in the tragic boat disaster that occurred in February 2025.
The spokesperson further revealed that Amir Hussain extorted 3.7 million rupees from an affected citizen, Nasrat Hussain, promising to send him to Europe. Hussain, in collaboration with other accomplices, attempted to smuggle the victims to Italy via Libya.
FIA’s spokesperson also disclosed that Hussain’s associates, including Muneer Hussain, Ahmed Aslam, Shah Faisal, and Wajid Ali, are running a network from the UAE, Libya, and Italy.
The FIA confirmed that Amir Hussain had also collected large sums of money from other victims of the boat tragedy. The bank account used by the accused has already been seized. Efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the gang, with Interpol being contacted for their international arrest.
