Is it Better to Give Zakat to One Person or Distribute it Among Multiple People

Question:Is it better to give the entire amount of Zakat to one person, or should it be divided among several individuals?

**Answer:** The person giving Zakat has the option to either give the entire amount to one eligible recipient or divide it among multiple eligible poor individuals. Both options are permissible.

However, it is disliked (Makruh) to give such a large amount to a single person without necessity, that the recipient becomes wealthy and reaches the level of *Sahib-e-Nisab* (someone who possesses the minimum wealth to be liable for Zakat). Nevertheless, Zakat is still valid if it is given to one person in a lump sum.

The preference depends on the circumstances and needs of the individuals involved. For instance, if one person has greater financial needs, such as higher family expenses, debt, or urgent financial difficulties, and the entire Zakat amount will be used to fulfill their needs, it would be better to give the full Zakat to that person.

However, if the Zakat amount exceeds the need of one person, it is more virtuous to distribute it among several people, so that the needs of multiple individuals can be addressed.
