Academic Staff Association of Balochistan University Condemns Delayed Salaries and Pension Payments

Quetta:The Academic Staff Association of the University of Balochistan (UoB), led by President Professor Dr. Kaleem Ullah Baloch, Vice President Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Shahwani, General Secretary Fareed Khan Achakzai, Joint Secretary Madam Zahra Malghani, Press Secretary Rehmat Ullah Achakzai, Finance Secretary Professor Dr. Sahibzada Baz Muhammad Kakar, and Executive Members Arbab Reza Kasi, Madam Farhana Umar Magasi, Dr. Mohib Ullah Kakar, Dr. Gul Muhammad, and Masood Mandokhel, issued a statement condemning the non-payment of monthly salaries and pensions to the faculty and staff of the University of Balochistan during the holy month of Ramadan.
The statement highlighted that while the central and provincial governments ensured the timely payment of salaries, pensions, and bonuses to their employees, the university staff has faced severe delays. The statement clarified that officers, particularly those in the Governor and Civil Secretariat, continue to receive their salaries with numerous allowances and perks, while the university staff struggles to receive their due payments. Moreover, it was noted that the university’s administration, particularly the Vice Chancellor, has been involved in illegal deductions from the approved allowances of the faculty and staff.
The statement further criticized the Provincial Finance Department for its failure to provide the necessary funds to cover salaries and pensions for the University of Balochistan and other institutions. Despite clear directives from the Chief Minister, the department has been creating artificial financial crises by cutting funds for approved allowances and making it increasingly difficult for the university to pay its staff. This situation, according to the association, is unacceptable and should be rectified immediately.
The Academic Staff Association called on the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and Provincial Assembly member Asghar Khan Tareen to address the issue and ensure that accurate information regarding the university’s financial needs is conveyed. The statement concluded by urging the Vice Chancellor to immediately reverse the illegal salary and allowance deductions and ensure the timely and full payment of salaries and pensions to the university’s faculty and staff, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
