Karachi Reports Over 10,000 Street Crimes in First Two Months of 2025

Karachi has witnessed a surge in street crimes during the first two months of 2025, with more than 10,000 incidents reported. According to the latest police report, a total of 10,356 street crime cases were registered in the city from January to February 2025.

The report further revealed that 12 citizens were killed during attempts to resist robbery, while 41 others were injured in these incidents. In the same period, 2,806 mobile phones were snatched from the public.

Additionally, the report highlights that 306 vehicles and 7,244 motorcycles were either stolen or snatched across Karachi by February 28, 2025. The daily rate of mobile phone thefts was 48.4, while vehicle thefts and snatchings stood at 5.3, and motorcycle thefts and snatchings at 124.9 per day.

Comparing with last year, the number of street crimes in the first two months of 2025 has decreased by 28.18%. In 2024, during the same period, a total of 14,419 street crimes were reported. The report also pointed out that in January and February 2024, 32 people were killed and 99 were injured in incidents of robbery resistance. Furthermore, 4,120 mobile phones, 335 vehicles, and 9,964 motorcycles were reported to have been snatched or stolen during those two months.

Despite the decline in the overall crime rate, the situation remains concerning, as street crimes continue to pose a significant challenge for authorities in Karachi.
