Physical Activity Key to Preventing Chronic Diseases and Promoting Healthy Aging: Study

Want to protect yourself from chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes at any age? Make physical activity a part of your daily routine. In fact, adopting a brisk walking habit can help maintain good health well into old age, according to a new medical study.
Published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, the study revealed that physical activity plays a significant role in preventing diseases or reducing their severity. The research involved a detailed analysis of data from multiple scientific reports.
The results showed that engaging in 150 minutes of physical activity per week, or just 20 to 25 minutes a day, can reduce the risk of death from any cause by up to 31%. The study also highlighted that regular physical activity keeps the body healthy as people age and helps prevent or reduce the severity of over 30 chronic conditions, including heart disease, heart failure, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, depression, dementia, cancer, and more.
According to the researchers, physical activity benefits both the body and the mind as we age. They stressed that many elderly individuals today suffer from multiple chronic conditions or engage in very little physical activity, making it crucial to incorporate physical exercise into one’s routine from a young or middle age.
