Balochistan CM Sarfraz Bugti Orders Immediate Action on Mining Accidents and Safety Measures

Quetta:An important meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, focusing on the mining accidents and their causes in the province. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, was attended by Provincial Minister for Finance and Mineral Development, Mir Shoyab Noshiwani, KP Assembly’s opposition leader Dr. Abadullah Khan, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Babar Khan, Additional Secretary of the CM Secretariat, Muhammad Fareedon, Special Secretary Mines, Muhammad Farooq, DG PDMA, Jehanzeb Khan, and other relevant officials.

During the meeting, CM Balochistan expressed deep concern over the recent coal mine accidents and showed dissatisfaction with the performance of the Mines Inspection Teams. He stated that it was unacceptable for inspectors to neglect their duties under the pretext of security issues. “Employees who cannot perform their duties should resign and go home,” he added angrily.

The CM directed immediate action against those responsible for the accidents and ordered the swift arrest of the suspects in the Sangeedi mine incident. He also instructed the suspension of the inspector involved and tasked the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) with investigating the incident.

The meeting directed the Mines and Minerals Department to adopt modern mining modules and safety measures used worldwide. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for regular mine inspections and the equipping of the Rescue and Training Wing with advanced technology. He also called for the immediate compensation for the families of deceased workers and the registration of all mine workers with the relevant authorities.

Furthermore, the CM directed the Mines Department to prepare a comprehensive proposal, ensuring that the government would provide the necessary resources to prevent accidents in the future. He made it clear that no negligence would be tolerated, and strict action would be taken against those found responsible for any future incidents. Once the investigation report is received, those guilty of negligence will be held accountable, and mining licenses will be revoked.

The relevant officials assured the Chief Minister that the causes of the accidents and safety measures would be swiftly addressed and implemented.
