Closure of Balochistan Education Endowment Fund Is an Educational Massacre of Poor Students; A One-Kilometre Road Is Built for Rs250 Million but There Are No Funds for Education; If the Decision Is Not Reversed, We Will Approach the Court Against Government Incompetence: Ali Ahmed Kurd, Rahib Buledi

QUETTA (Daily Qudrat): All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee Chairman Ali Ahmed Kurd and Rahib Buledi, in a joint statement, termed the closure of the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund a continuation of the government’s anti-education policies against the students of Balochistan, and said that due to this cruel government policy, thousands of poor and deserving students of Balochistan studying in various educational institutions within and outside the country and their families have been subjected to severe mental and financial torment.

The statement said that unemployment, corruption, bad governance and instability in Balochistan have reached their peak; billions of rupees are being squandered in the name of roads and drains, and the corruption and commissions of ministers are at their peak, where a one-kilometre road in the Communications Department is being built at an unrealistic cost of more than Rs250 million.

They said that Balochistan is already suffering from severe educational backwardness, and the shortage of teachers and severe lack of basic facilities in our educational institutions are clear proof of the government’s complete incompetence. Civilised and developed states around the world spend a major portion of their income on education and human resources, but the huge amount received from Balochistan’s natural and mineral resources is being wasted on the rulers’ luxurious and personal expenses and privileges instead of the education sector.

The lawyers’ leaders, strongly condemning this frivolous and non-political step of putting the future of thousands of students at stake, strongly demanded that the government immediately reverse the decision to close the Education Endowment Fund. They warned that if the government does not reverse this decision, the Lawyers Action Committee will determine a full course of action against this government bargaining with the students’ future, will make the protection of the rights of Balochistan’s youth part of its movement and will approach the high court against this unconstitutional step.
