PTI Strongly Criticises Maryam Nawaz’s Birthday Celebrations in Educational Institutions

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly criticised the celebrations marking Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s birthday in educational institutions, particularly reports of schoolchildren singing birthday songs, describing the activities as political publicity at the expense of education.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the PTI spokesperson alleged that Maryam Nawaz, whom the party referred to as the “Form 47 chief minister,” was so eager to secure a place in history that even schools and educational institutions had been drawn into birthday celebrations and political praise.

The party claimed that morning assemblies in schools, which should focus on education, character-building and moral development, were instead being used for cake-cutting ceremonies and songs praising the chief minister.

PTI alleged that the situation reflected a decline in educational standards and suggested that Punjab’s education system was being used to promote political loyalty rather than academic learning.

In its post, the party expressed concern that institutions once regarded as centres of character development and intellectual growth were increasingly being used for political promotion and personality worship.

The statement further alleged that children were being made to sing songs in praise of political leaders, calling the practice inappropriate for educational institutions in a democratic society.

PTI argued that political leaders could earn a lasting place in history through meaningful achievements and public service rather than through ceremonies and publicity campaigns organised in schools.

The party maintained that educational institutions should remain focused on learning, critical thinking and students’ personal development instead of becoming venues for political praise.

The criticism follows the organisation of special birthday-related activities in educational institutions across Lahore and other parts of Punjab on the instructions of Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.

The allegations and criticism were made by PTI in its public statement. The report does not include a response from the Punjab government to the party’s objections.
