Balochistan Bureaucracy’s Traditional Sluggishness Has Snatched the Poor’s Livelihood: Wheat Not Purchased from PASSCO Even Two Months After Cabinet Approval; 100kg Flour Bag Reaches Rs16,300

QUETTA (Daily Qudrat Quetta): Despite the provincial cabinet’s approval, the Balochistan government has been unable to begin purchasing wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO), further worsening the wheat and flour crisis in the province. According to sources, the matter of purchasing wheat from PASSCO has been stalled for the past two months. The provincial cabinet had approved the wheat purchase two months ago, but the decision has yet to be implemented.
Due to the delay in wheat procurement, concerns are growing over rising flour prices and supply in the province. According to flour mill owners, the price of a 100kg wheat bag has reached Rs14,000, while the price of a 100kg flour bag has reached Rs16,300.
With the wheat procurement matter remaining pending for a long time, there are fears of a further increase in flour prices and worsening difficulties for citizens. Low-income families are already facing difficulties in meeting their basic needs due to inflation.
