Early screen cracks raise concerns over Apple’s Foldable iPhone

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is facing early durability concerns after several users reported cracks in the inner display near the hinge, with one customer claiming the screen broke within hours of purchase.

As per a statement from MacRumors, an Australian customer said the display cracked after about six hours of ownership and fewer than 20 openings. The customer reported hearing a cracking sound while opening the phone, despite no visible external damage, and later received a replacement device at an Apple Store.

Similar complaints have surfaced on Reddit and other online platforms, with photographs showing cracks along the screen’s central fold and, in some cases, bright lines of pixels.

Concerns have also been raised about the phone’s hinge and dust resistance. A durability test by YouTuber JerryRigEverything reportedly found dust entering the hinge area, while the inner display developed a green line during a deliberate bend test before becoming unresponsive.

However, the cause of the reported failures remains unknown, and the available reports do not establish how widespread the problem is. Apple had not publicly identified the cause in the coverage reviewed.

Furthermore, other users have also shared concerns on X (Twitter) about the durability of devices. On Saturday, Sam Kohl also posted on X about iPhone Duo and warned people about its potential vulnerability.

Further reports and technical inspections will be needed to determine whether the incidents indicate a broader durability issue or isolated cases.
