LPG prices surge to Rs750 per kilogram in northern Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have surged to Rs750 per kilogram in northern areas of Pakistan, raising concerns about further increases in household fuel costs ahead of winter.

As per a report, the government is considering replacing the current monthly pricing system with a daily mechanism to set LPG rates. Under the proposed system, cylinder prices could exceed Rs10,000, though this increase remains a possibility rather than a confirmed price.

Moreover, the proposed change aims to address rising winter gas prices and curb hoarding. Instead of setting prices once a month, rates could be revised daily to reflect changing market conditions.

However, LPG importers have called for a review of the existing pricing formula, suggesting prices be set weekly or daily rather than monthly.

The proposal comes as consumers in northern Pakistan face LPG prices of up to Rs750 per kilogram, adding to concerns over the affordability of fuel during the colder months.
