Political Party Chief Upset Over Not Getting Governorship, Says Mohsin Naqvi

LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has claimed that the head of a political party is unhappy over not being offered a governorship or a share in the proposed Governor’s Rule arrangement, criticising what he described as the politician’s past reliance on the establishment.
Speaking informally to journalists in Lahore, Naqvi said some politicians had spent decades building their political careers with the support of the establishment and should reflect on their own past before pointing fingers at others.
“These are the same politicians who relied on the establishment for decades. They even had the air tickets for their political party arranged through the establishment,” Naqvi said, referring to the unnamed political leader.
He argued that such politicians were not in a position to accuse others of political dependence on powerful institutions without acknowledging their own history.
The interior minister also stressed that political disagreements should be expressed through arguments and facts rather than inappropriate language and allegations.
Questions Raised Over Former FATA’s Resources
Naqvi also criticised certain political leaders over their positions on the resources and rights of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
He questioned why these leaders had remained silent for years when, according to him, the region was not receiving its rightful share of resources.
“If these districts were not receiving their due share for years, why did these leaders remain silent at the time? Why did they not raise their voices for the rights of the people of FATA?” he asked.
The minister maintained that the rights of residents of the former tribal districts and the fair distribution of resources should be treated as issues above party politics.
He cautioned political leaders against using the region’s financial and administrative concerns to advance their own political interests.
Calls for Unity Amid Security Challenges in KP
Referring to the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Naqvi said the province was facing serious security challenges and needed political cooperation rather than confrontation.
He urged political leaders to avoid inflaming tensions or creating further divisions and instead contribute to restoring peace and combating terrorism.
According to the interior minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa needs stability, peace and collective efforts to address its security problems.
He called on political parties to set aside their differences and cooperate on measures to improve law and order and strengthen counterterrorism efforts.
Naqvi concluded that protecting public rights, ensuring a fair distribution of resources and establishing peace should take precedence over political interests.
The minister did not publicly identify the political party chief he was referring to in his remarks.
