PTI Can Be Considered for Talks If It Plays a Positive Constitutional Role: Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said that the government may consider negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) if the party agrees to play a positive role within the constitutional and legal framework.
According to a private television channel, Rana Sanaullah said that the PTI’s current political approach was harming the party itself. He added that the government could reconsider its position if the opposition party demonstrated a willingness to fulfil its constitutional and legal responsibilities.
Recalling the tenure of former prime minister Imran Khan, Rana Sanaullah said that Khan had not even contacted the opposition leader by telephone during his time in office. In contrast, he said, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shakes hands and engages in conversation with the opposition leader when he attends parliamentary sessions.
Imran Khan’s Sisters’ Detention
Expressing regret over the detention of Imran Khan’s sisters, Rana Sanaullah said the government was also concerned about the situation. However, he claimed that their statements regarding the long march were known to everyone.
He alleged that Imran Khan’s sisters had made statements about marching on the Governor House, making their detention necessary to maintain law and order.
Referring to discussions on PTI’s social media platforms, the adviser also criticised what he described as the party’s social media network and its activities.
Rana Sanaullah maintained that if the PTI had agreed to play its role through constitutional and legal means, there would have been no need for an interim arrangement. He added that the matter could still be reconsidered if the party changed its approach.
Calls for National Unity Against Terrorism
Warning about the growing threat of terrorism, Rana Sanaullah said that failure to eliminate terrorism promptly and unite the nation against it could pose serious risks to the country’s existence.
He stressed the need for a unified policy between the federal and provincial governments to effectively tackle the security challenge.
Allegations Against India
Commenting on regional security, Rana Sanaullah claimed that India was no longer in a position to wage a conventional war against Pakistan and alleged that it had established bases in Afghanistan.
He further alleged that India was financing terrorist activities in Pakistan. He also claimed that the wider region increasingly viewed Pakistan as a security provider.
The adviser emphasised the importance of national unity and coordinated action to address terrorism and protect the country’s security.
