Asad Umar Questions Double Standards in Constitution Protection Movement’s Declaration

Islamabad (Daily Qudrat) — Former Minister Asad Umar has said that the Constitution Protection Movement’s declaration demands the release of many people by name, but for Imran Khan it only seeks a meeting and health access, while Bushra Bibi is not even named. In a tweet on X, he said: “Look at the declaration of the Constitution Protection Movement.”
He stated that it is a good thing that the release of many people has been demanded by name. “Now read carefully — for whom is only a meeting and access to doctors demanded, and whose name is not even mentioned. Imran Khan: only meeting and health; Bushra Bibi: not even named. This has happened for the second time. Here is an excerpt from the declaration:”
The participants demanded the immediate release of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, PTI Provincial President Junaid Akbar, and all arrested members of the national and provincial assemblies and leaders.
The Constitution Protection Movement demands the release of Imran Khan’s sisters, a meeting with Imran Khan, and access of his doctors to him. The participants demanded the release of all political prisoners, including Iman Mazari, her husband Hadi Chatta, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, and the entire Baloch Solidarity Committee.
“Last time I said a mistake had been made. Now it seems it is policy. There must be some wisdom in this too,” Asad Umar added.
Meanwhile, the Federal Constitutional Court rejected as inadmissible the plea for suspension of Bushra Bibi’s sentence in the 190 million pound case. According to details, a two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan, which also included Justice Baqir Najafi, heard the case. Barrister Salman Safdar argued on behalf of Bushra Bibi, and Salman Akram Raja was also present with him in the courtroom.
During the hearing, lawyer Salman Safdar argued that courts have always shown leniency toward women, and NAB’s conduct over the past 13 months has been objectionable because NAB sought adjournments at several hearings. He said that after the sentencing, there is now legal justification for Bushra Bibi’s bail, and she has requested suspension of her sentence on the grounds of being a woman, since the entire focus in this case has remained on the founder PTI’s appeal.
