Those Interested in New Provinces Should Bring Resolution to Assembly: Sindh CM
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that anyone interested in creating new provinces should bring a resolution to the provincial assembly.
Speaking to the media after attending the inauguration ceremony at the Sindh Institute of Animal Health in Korangi, Murad Ali Shah said the issue of new provinces would be discussed in terms of its potential advantages and disadvantages.
He said strengthening the local government system and building its capacity was part of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s manifesto, adding that other provinces should also strengthen their local government institutions.
The chief minister noted that the Sindh Assembly had already passed resolutions opposing the creation of new provinces six times. He said the assembly could possibly pass another resolution against the creation of new provinces on Thursday.
“Those who are interested should bring the resolution to the assembly,” Murad Ali Shah said.
Commenting on the tragic incident at PIMS Hospital, he described it as deeply distressing and said institutions needed further improvement.
Earlier, the chief minister visited the pet hospital at the Sindh Institute of Animal Health and inspected its operation theatre, wards, intensive care unit, diagnostic bay, post-mortem hall and modern laboratories. He was also briefed on the institute’s new facilities and reviewed various departments, including the recovery ward and X-ray facilities.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Murad Ali Shah said the establishment of modern facilities at the Sindh Institute of Animal Health was an important development. The new facilities would strengthen animal healthcare, research and disease surveillance systems, he said.
He described the livestock sector as an important pillar of Sindh’s economy and a source of livelihood for millions of families. The sector also plays a key role in food security, employment and rural prosperity, he added.
The chief minister said ensuring healthy livestock, improving production and increasing farmers’ incomes were among the government’s key priorities. The Sindh government was continuously investing in animal health and veterinary services, he said.
He said the modern pet hospital would provide international-standard medical facilities for pets, including treatment, surgery, intensive care and diagnostic services.
Murad Ali Shah said new dairy, analytical and parasitology laboratories had been established at the diagnostic and research complex. These modern laboratories would help ensure timely diagnosis, monitoring and prevention of animal diseases while improving the quality of milk and meat and strengthening food safety.
He said the government also aimed to develop a new generation of veterinary experts and researchers. The academic block would expand opportunities for veterinary education, research and professional training.
The chief minister said the Sindh Institute of Animal Health would be developed into a major center for veterinary education, research and diagnostics. Diagnostic laboratories would be further modernized, while the institute’s capacity for vaccine production would also be strengthened.
He said mobile veterinary services and modern technology would be used to provide facilities to farmers at their doorstep. Research should be directly linked to addressing the practical problems and needs of farmers, he added.
Murad Ali Shah also stressed the promotion of modern and sustainable livestock practices compatible with climate change and said the protection of Sindh’s indigenous and valuable livestock breeds was among the government’s agricultural priorities.
He expressed the resolve to build a strong livestock sector, a stable rural economy and a prosperous Sindh, adding that the Sindh Institute of Animal Health was intended to become a model institution for the country.
