Imposition of Governor’s Rule and Emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Is a Dangerous Precedent; Removing an Elected Government Is Against the Democratic Structure: National Party

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta): The central spokesperson of the National Party, in a statement issued, has strongly condemned the move to impose Governor’s Rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said that using undemocratic measures by citing political differences as justification is in no way in the interest of the democratic process. Removing any province’s elected government through undemocratic measures will set a dangerous precedent for the federal democratic structure.

The statement emphasized that the formation of governments and their authority are directly linked to the votes of the people; therefore, weakening this mandate through any administrative or non-political measure is tantamount to affecting the people’s right to vote. In the current circumstances, instead of increasing tension among political forces, there is an urgent need to promote political dialogue by adopting the democratic and political path.

The National Party made it clear that the party fully believes in the constitutional rights and autonomy of all units of the federation. Instead of unconstitutional interference in the political affairs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the public mandate should be respected, and political forces should be given full opportunity to resolve their issues within Parliament. The statement concluded that all political forces must play their role in stabilizing democracy and maintaining the supremacy of the Constitution, because any wrong decision will not only harm democracy but will also strengthen the promotion of authoritarianism.
