Zahoor Buledi Defends Sarfraz Bugti, Urges Critics Not to Take His Remarks Out of Context

QUETTA:Balochistan Provincial Minister Zahoor Buledi has defended Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti over his remarks concerning women’s employment, urging critics not to take his statement out of context.

In a statement, Buledi said that when young women from Kech and Makran thanked Chief Minister Bugti for providing them with respectable employment opportunities, the chief minister challenged outdated tribal attitudes that regard women working outside the home as inappropriate.

According to Buledi, Bugti cited the example of his own daughter, who also belongs to a tribal society, to emphasise the importance of challenging such traditional mindsets.

Buledi questioned why Bugti was being subjected to a different standard, arguing that if the overseas education of the children of former nationalist chief ministers Sardar Akhtar Mengal and Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, as well as the children of individuals engaged in conflict with the state, was considered acceptable, the same principle should apply to Bugti.

He further stated that the incumbent Balochistan government was working to provide Baloch women with access to education, greater autonomy and dignified employment opportunities.

Buledi described these efforts as a commendable step towards expanding opportunities for women in the province.
