Flour and Wheat Prices Surge in Open Market, Adding to Public Hardship

Wheat price rises from Rs4,700 to Rs5,400 per maund, while a 15kg flour bag reaches Rs2,350

LAHORE: A sharp increase in wheat and flour prices in the open market has added to the financial difficulties of consumers, putting further pressure on household budgets, particularly for low-income families.

According to reports, the price of wheat has increased from Rs4,700 to Rs5,400 per maund, while the price of a 15-kilogram bag of flour has reached a record Rs2,350.

The rising prices of essential food items have created serious difficulties for low-income households. With flour being a staple food for millions of people, its rising cost has placed an additional burden on both poor and middle-income families already struggling to meet their daily expenses.

Concerned citizens have urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the situation and introduce measures to bring down the prices of flour and other essential commodities.

Residents said persistent inflation had already made it increasingly difficult to manage household expenses, while the latest increase in flour prices had further aggravated the financial challenges faced by ordinary citizens.

They called on the government to take effective steps to keep essential food prices at affordable levels and provide relief to families with limited incomes.
