If Islamabad Has Failed, Hand It Over to Tharparkar, Says Bilawal Bhutto

THARPARKAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that if those running Islamabad have failed, they should hand over the capital to Tharparkar, claiming that his party could run it more effectively.
Addressing a ceremony in Tharparkar, Bilawal said the development and transformation witnessed in Thar could not be seen anywhere else in the country to the same extent.
“Pakistan is amazed to see how far Thar has come,” he said, adding that some elements were unable to accept the region’s development.
Bilawal said a narrative was being promoted that the system had failed and new provinces should therefore be created. Instead, he said, Islamabad should focus on the model of development achieved in Thar.
“If Islamabad has failed, hand it over to Tharparkar. We will fix it,” he said. “Give Islamabad to us and enrol its children in Thar’s educational institutions. They, too, will top examinations like the youth of Thar.”
The PPP chairman said his party only needed an opportunity to run Islamabad to demonstrate the capabilities of the country’s young people.
Criticising political opponents in Karachi, Bilawal said what he described as a “politically orphaned” party was engaged in politics of division and disorder in the city.
He said Thar’s students topped the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT), but instead of congratulating them, their political opponents allegedly promoted politics of hatred.
Bilawal also highlighted Thar’s energy and development projects, saying Block II of the Thar coalfield was generating 600 megawatts of electricity, while Block III was expected to generate 2,000 megawatts.

He said experts in Islamabad had once claimed that Thar coal had no significant value, but the Sindh government was now using the resource to save around $1.6 billion in valuable foreign exchange.
According to Bilawal, 60 percent of jobs in Thar-based projects were being provided to local youth, while Sindh’s youth accounted for 90 percent of total employment.
He said Thar coal was now being used not only for electricity generation but also for producing gas and fertiliser, creating further economic opportunities.
Bilawal said the PPP was committed to expanding the public-private partnership model to Islamabad and Karachi, establishing Sindh investment zones and building a new port in Thatta to further strengthen the economy.
