Sindh CM Takes Notice After Rs6.5 Million Robbery at Edhi Home in Karachi

Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Provincial Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar have taken immediate notice of a robbery at the Edhi Home in Sohrab Goth, where armed robbers allegedly stole Rs6.5 million meant for employees’ salaries.
According to the Edhi administration, the cash had been withdrawn from a bank and brought to the Edhi Centre for salary payments scheduled for the day. Four armed suspects allegedly followed the cash from the bank to the centre before carrying out the robbery and fleeing the scene.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central, Dr. Imran, arrived at the site with a police team soon after the incident and launched an investigation.
Speaking to the media, Saad Edhi said the robbers went directly to the office where the money was kept, raising suspicions that they had prior knowledge of the cash’s location. He added that the possibility of involvement by a current or former employee could not be ruled out, although police are investigating all possible angles.

The Edhi administration noted that the Sohrab Goth facility is one of the foundation’s largest centres in Karachi and includes a major mortuary. A similar robbery had previously occurred at the Edhi Home in Kharadar.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah sought a report from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh and directed authorities to trace the stolen money and arrest those responsible without delay. He said the Edhi Centre serves the poor and destitute, making such a crime against a charitable institution unacceptable.
Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar also ordered the Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Karachi to submit a detailed report. He instructed police to recover the stolen Rs6.5 million, arrest the culprits at the earliest, and utilize modern investigative techniques, including CCTV footage, to identify those involved.
The minister further directed police officers to coordinate closely with the Edhi administration, conduct a transparent and comprehensive investigation, and strengthen security measures around welfare and charitable institutions. He emphasized that those targeting organizations serving humanity deserve no leniency and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting citizens and charitable institutions.
