May 9-Like Violence Will Be Dealt with Decisively, Says Corps Commanders Conference

ISLAMABAD: The Corps Commanders Conference has said that internal stability is critically important for Pakistan and that any attempt to create violent disorder or situations similar to the May 9 events, under any pretext, will be dealt with through decisive force and law, without discrimination or hesitation.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the 277th Corps Commanders Conference was held under the chairmanship of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The forum offered Fateha for the armed forces personnel, law-enforcement officials and innocent civilians who sacrificed their lives in defence of the country and paid rich tribute to the martyrs.

The participants said that targeted operations against terrorism originating from Afghanistan were Pakistan’s right of self-defence. They also held what they described as the Taliban leadership responsible for the serious consequences of terrorism, alleging that terrorist activities were being carried out as an instrument of India.

The forum appreciated the continued successful intelligence-based counterterrorism operations by law-enforcement agencies. It stressed that eliminating terrorism required not only ground operations but also effective administrative and governance measures, including bringing governance closer to the people at the grassroots level.

The participants also emphasized the need for effective communication with the public regarding the causes and factors behind terrorism. They said it was necessary to dismantle the crime-terror nexus operating under the patronage of certain elements and to enhance the capacity of the police to address the threat.

The conference reiterated that internal stability was of utmost importance for Pakistan. It said any attempt to create violent disorder or circumstances similar to May 9 would be dealt with decisively under the law and through force, without discrimination or hesitation.

The forum welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing it as an important development for strengthening longstanding strategic relations and defence cooperation among the three countries.

The participants strongly condemned the Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia and expressed their solidarity with the Kingdom. They reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the protection and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain.

The conference also reiterated that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir directed that efforts to further strengthen intelligence-based operations should continue. He also instructed formations to enhance their defence capabilities through the acquisition of modern technology, improved training and integration across all domains.

The Field Marshal said that with the unwavering support of the nation, the armed forces remained fully prepared to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
