Maryam Nawaz Expresses Grief Over Security Personnel Killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over the deaths of security personnel and officers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the situation was a matter of concern.

Addressing participants of a leadership course, Maryam Nawaz said people from Punjab were fighting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and expressed concern over the continued loss of personnel and officers in the province.

Recalling her childhood, she said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa once had a remarkable reputation and that her family used to spend their holidays in Kaghan and Naran. She said it was painful to see security personnel and officers being martyred there today.

The Punjab chief minister said civilian law-enforcement agencies should provide the required cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Referring to the performance of Punjab’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Maryam Nawaz said Additional Inspector General CTD Punjab Waseem remained in direct contact with her, while she also personally chaired meetings concerning CTD affairs.

She said her meetings were not merely formal and that she tried to understand issues by going down to the grassroots level according to the department’s requirements.

Speaking about governance, Maryam Nawaz said some people believed that a chief minister’s job did not include tasks such as ensuring manhole covers were installed.

“But if the chief minister does not do it, then who will?” she said, stressing that a chief minister’s role was not limited to sitting in an office but also involved directly identifying and resolving public problems.
