Professor Dr Wasim Qazi Appointed University of Karachi Vice Chancellor for Four Years

KARACHI: Professor Dr Wasim Qazi has been appointed Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi for a four-year term following approval by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
Secretary Universities and Boards Abbas Baloch issued the official notification after the chief minister approved the appointment, according to reports.
Dr Qazi has been serving as Vice Chancellor of Karachi Metropolitan University for the past two years. He previously also served as Vice Chancellor of private-sector Iqra University.
His appointment has been made for four years under the relevant law.
Earlier on Friday morning, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah personally met all three shortlisted candidates — Dr Wasim Qazi, Dr Moazzam Khan and Dr Shafiqur Rehman — before approving Dr Qazi’s name for the position.
The search committee, headed by Sindh Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Tariq Rafi, awarded 86 marks to Dr Wasim Qazi, 74 to Dr Moazzam Khan and 71 to Dr Shafiqur Rehman.
The post had become vacant after the completion of former Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Iraqi’s first regular four-year term on July 28, 2026.
In the interim, Dr Tufail Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of NED University of Engineering and Technology, was given additional charge of the University of Karachi. He is currently on a 20-day overseas visit.
