PTI Leaders Advise Postponement of October 4 Long March

PESHAWAR: Several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have reportedly advised the party leadership to postpone the long march announced for October 4, citing the prevailing political and security situation in the country.

According to ARY News, PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has completed consultations regarding its future political strategy and the planned October 4 long march. Sources said a majority of party leaders and central office-bearers recommended that the march be postponed indefinitely, with a new date to be announced once conditions become favourable.

The consultation reportedly took place during an informal PTI meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The meeting reviewed the overall political situation, the possibility of Governor’s Rule or an emergency being imposed in KP, and reported crackdowns at the homes of party workers.

According to sources, most participants were of the view that the October 4 march should be postponed immediately in view of the prevailing circumstances, security concerns and threats facing the provincial government.

The meeting also discussed reported raids and arrests of party leaders and workers. Sources said Chief Minister Sohail Afridi expressed concern over the situation and was advised to convene a meeting of the Apex Committee to review the security situation in the province.

Meanwhile, PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Secretary Shaukat Ali Yousafzai has also conveyed his views to the central leadership through a letter.

In the letter, Yousafzai claimed that the federal government was preparing to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing possible security threats from Afghanistan, and to remove the elected provincial government.

He further alleged that there was a plan to impose a complete ban on PTI by accusing the party of supporting terrorism.

Against this backdrop, Yousafzai urged the PTI leadership to formally announce the immediate postponement of the October 4 long march, arguing that as a responsible and popular political party, PTI should take the decision in the broader interest of the country and the party.
