Muneeb Farooq Says KP Political Crisis May Go Beyond CM Sohail Afridi

LAHORE:Journalist Muneeb Farooq has said that the ongoing situation surrounding the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government may not remain limited to Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, with further developments and possible legal action expected in the coming days.
Speaking in his vlog, Farooq said several matters concerning the KP government that had remained under wraps could come to light in the coming days. He added that the exact timeline was known only to those responsible for taking the relevant decisions. ([UrduPoint][1])
Farooq said a decision had apparently been made that the system could not continue to operate in its current manner and that further steps would be taken against those involved in the situation.
He also said that people associated with controversial statements, strong speeches and various cases could face increased legal scrutiny. According to him, some cases that had previously moved slowly could now be fast-tracked, with their outcomes potentially emerging sooner.
Referring to legal matters, Farooq said there was no legal room for defying Supreme Court judgments and alleged that such defiance had occurred. He added that further measures could be taken if considered necessary.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Zia chief Ijaz-ul-Haq said he believed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would cease to exist before October 4.
Speaking on a private television programme, Ijaz-ul-Haq said there were limits to any proposed long march and claimed that the government would not allow PTI to proceed with it. He further said the KP government could be removed before October 4, whether through an emergency or governor’s rule.
Ijaz-ul-Haq also said that relief could not be secured through threats, adding that threatening statements by either a minister or the government would be inappropriate.
He said that, in his view, PTI would face further difficulties after the developments currently unfolding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Farooq’s remarks and Ijaz-ul-Haq’s prediction are political assessments rather than confirmed government decisions. Recent reporting has also carried discussion about whether the KP government could survive and whether developments would extend beyond the question of the proposed long march. ([UrduPoint][1])
