Rana Sanaullah Says Governor’s Rule in KP Is a Constitutional Option, But No Final Decision Yet

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said that imposing governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a constitutional and legal option, but no final decision has been taken so far.

Speaking on Geo News’ programme *Jirga*, Sanaullah said the KP government met the circumstances under which governor’s rule could be imposed, adding that a decision on the matter could be taken if the situation warranted it.

He said the government expected political opponents to pursue their struggle through political means rather than attempting to create a situation that could lead to confrontation.

Referring to the events of May 9 and November 26, 2024, Sanaullah said the concessions or “space” that had been available after those incidents would no longer remain available if similar attempts were repeated.

He said the Constitution and law did not permit an attack on Islamabad, adding that anyone involved in planning or preparing for such an activity would be stopped from proceeding with what he described as illegal actions.

Sanaullah said that if anyone, regardless of whether they were a chief minister, minister or a relative of a political leader, became involved in preparations for an unlawful activity, they would be stopped before such an activity could begin. He added that if such an action was nevertheless launched, it would be dealt with at the “ultimatum level.”

The prime minister’s adviser also accused the KP government of not being run in accordance with the law. He claimed that certain activities of the provincial government were illegal and described amendments to the Police Act by the KP government as unconstitutional.

Sanaullah further argued that, constitutionally, a provincial government could not challenge powers vested in the federal government, saying the Constitution and law did not permit such a move.
