Civil Secretariat Evacuated Over Fake Security Threats, Claims Sohail Afridi

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has alleged that the Civil Secretariat was evacuated on the basis of what he described as fake security threats, despite the secretariat being located in the cantonment area, where security is the responsibility of the relevant authorities.

Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Afridi said that if anyone believed such tactics could frighten him or force him to abandon his objectives, “that is a wrong assumption.”

He said he had offered prayers at the same mosque for which a security threat had reportedly been issued.

The chief minister reiterated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would hold its long march “at all costs.” He said the government could install containers, place spikes on roads or even resort to firing, but PTI would take to the streets and would not back down from its political objectives.

Afridi said that if the government believed that creating obstacles or using other tactics could intimidate them, it was mistaken. He said he would continue what he described as a struggle against a “fake system” and “corrupt rulers.”

The KP chief minister also alleged that preparations were under way to isolate Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from other parts of the country by installing spikes on roads.

He questioned the purpose behind restrictions allegedly imposed on provincial ministers from speaking to the media.

Afridi further claimed that government officials from another province had entered Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and were engaging in confrontations with people. He warned that such conduct could further escalate tensions in the region.
